Mural Diaries: Painting Sabrina Carpenter’s “Busy Woman”

What do you do when a pop song gets stuck in your head, lives rent-free for weeks, and subtly rewires your entire personality? If you’re me, you paint it on a wall. My latest mural is a tribute to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Busy Woman”. The song is a cheeky, glam, tongue-in-gloss anthem about knowing your worth and reminding flaky love interests that you’ve got better things to do (and hotter people to do them with, probably).
Sabrina’s lyrics walk that perfect line between playful and pointed. When she says, “If you don’t want me, I’ll just deem you gay,” it’s both hilarious and cutting, and I knew instantly I wanted to paint that energy.
The Composition
My concept for the mural started with a bold, stylized portrait of Sabrina. Around her float reminders of her “busy” schedule with easter eggs from the lyrics. The color palette had to match the song’s mood: sugary and unapologetically feminine. I used electric pink and periwinkle paired with cool green tones. The composition is purposefully asymmetrical, inspired by the style of a retro comic book.

The Process
After sketching the layout, I projected it onto the wall and got to work. Blocking in the base colors went quickly, but the details like Sabrina’s face and the little objects orbiting her took more time and finesse. I used Behr paint in a matte finish to get that clean, polished look.
I painted the small details and lettering elements with a mix of fine brushes and paint pens to keep them graphic and bold. Each object and detail was placed with intention. They suggest a woman surrounded by noise, while also hinting at the song's lyrics.
Final Thoughts
I'm nothing if not a fangirl, and this mural is a testament to that. It's an ode to my love of Sabrina Carpenter and pop music in general. A visual reminder of embracing femininity and never letting yourself be put on the back burner.
If you’re ever in the mood for a mural that’s part pop culture, part therapy, and entirely extra—I’m your girl. Sabrina might be busy, but I’ve got just enough time to paint something unforgettable.
